Typically, as people age, their bone mass decreases, making them more vulnerable to bone fractures. A recent study concludes that the most effective way to reduce the risk of fractures in later life is to take twice the recommended dose of vitamin D and calcium daily. The three-year study followed a group of French women in their eighties who were nursing-home residents. The women were given daily supplements of twice the recommended dose of vitamin D and calcium. In addition, the women participated in a light weightlifting program. After three years, these women showed a much lower rate of hip fractures than is average for their age.

First of all, argument that as people age, their bone mass decreases is widely accepted. Since bone weak they are more susceptible to fractures. However there are many precautions to reduce bone fractures, but argument states imperatively about imbibing vitamin C and D twice the recommended level to keep bones strong.Argument also recommend to participate in weightlifting program which is highly impractical for most people. There are no cue about what age one start taking precautions in order to keep fit and healthy bones.

Bone mass decreases as people age, there are no particular age where bone starts enervate. So loosing weight and energy depends on many more factors.A thorough analysis can reveal many more possibilities to keep oneself fit other than what suggested in passage. For example daily exercises can keep you very fit and you can retain strength of bones as well. Instead of imbibing more than prescribed vitamin tablets daily exercises is advisable. One can keep bones strong by walking, jogging and yoga.

Taking in more vitamin C and D can nourish your bones but excessive intake of vitamin can cause hyper growth which is dangerous. If a vitamin is recommended it mean that one need to imbue prescribed amount of vitamins only. So it is not advisable to intake more than prescribed amount of vitamin. For example vitamin D which is essential for dissolve fat and to nourish bone. Excessive imbue certainly have side effects. So in the age of 80 one find difficult to resist all side effects of over dosing.

Finally, Argument suggest post intake of more vitamin c and D group of people went for weight lifting program. However no where in argument implicit that " how much exercise one need to keep bones strong after intake of tablets. We can look out for alternatives. Vitamin D we can get from sun bath. By this way one can avoid side effects of excessive indulge of vitamins. So overall there are three weak points in argument. One is excessive intake of vitamin C and D is not advisable since it may have side effects. Second is that " Argument insists on exercise after intake of tablets which most people find difficult. Third argument didn't reflect "alternative ways of nourishment for bones". So these are few points makes argument very weak. Supporting evidences on above points may bring argument under scrutiny.

he following recommendation was made by the president and administrative staff of Grove College, a private institution, to the college's governing committee.

"We recommend that Grove College preserve its century-old tradition of all-female education rather than admit men into its programs. It is true that a majority of faculty members voted in favor of coeducation, arguing that it would encourage more students to apply to Grove. But eighty percent of the students responding to a survey conducted by the student government wanted the school to remain all female, and over half of the alumni who answered a separate survey also opposed coeducation. Keeping the college all-female, therefore, will improve morale among students and convince alumni to keep supporting the college financially."

Notion that all female education will improve morale among students is true however biased towards all female education only because to convince alumni to keep supporting college financially is not acceptable. First of all argument is weaken by the fact that "even though majority of faculty members voted for co education considering increase in total admissions" college wanted to remain as all female education. Argument says "50 percent of alumni support all female education so it is implicit that other half should support co education. So further lime lights on above said factors required to analyze the argument.

Grove college's majority faculty foster the notion of co education. More the number of admissions more the financial support to university. So facing towards co- education increase university's financial strength. Hence improvement of financial abilities should reflect and precede rich education and laboratory facilities. If faculty insisting on co-education one can understand university needs to consider faculty view seriously and review it's stand towards all female education.

Garnering above discussion, university wants to advocate themselves as all female education institute only because of two reasons. First one to keep morale standards among students and second one to convince alumni to support financially. If can be exegesis from argument only 50% alumni argue for female education rest all nod for co-education.As stated in argument if university considered financial support one of the major criterion. Then rest 50 % of alumni foster co-education idea and tender financial facilities. As discussed co-education increase application and from more admissions more stable is the institution financially.

More over university management decision to retain 'all- female' education based on student poll is not advisable. It is always management should take decision not only considering students poll and alumni poll results. There is no need that all alumni who voted for female education shouldn't support university financially. by retaining all female education system university retains it's moral values but who is going to fund studies?. Is it Alumni can bear all expenses?. Is is that female students admit high fees only because university is all female education?. Answer is "no" for all above. So It can be advocated that" by broadening their teaching area and admits men can increase chances of financial stability.

"It is easy to welcome innovation and accept new ideas. What most people find difficult, however, is accepting the way these new ideas are put into practice."

Human tendency that "he always welcome new ideas and innovations". "it is easy to said rather done" likewise for an individual innovations and new ideas look simple for the first glance, in fact new technologies take lot of time and effort to adopt. Changes are must in day to day leaving, so we always welcome new changes, if we are able to convey the methods of adopting to these changes then one can avail greater benefit of innovations.

Information technology crosses many milestones and successful in developing new ideas and methods. Being in the receptive end of these whimsically changing technologies one can be very excited about it interim, adopting to these ideas and methods will not be an easy cake. For example "Innovations in banking sector". Companies adopting many advanced banking systems like internet banking, mobile banking etc.Card payments through credit cards, visa cards, debit card etc. Over the years man has witnessed these revolutionary changes. So, as and when banks apply new technologies user finds difficult to learn how to use facilities provided by bank?.

Lime light on "what are the reasons behind "user finding difficulty to use new banking technologies". Lack of training, Not adequate awareness, lack of facilities etc. After adopting to innovative methods, employees should made to learn it and pass on to user. So a cycle of information transfer from developer to employees to users help end user to get benefited by system. A good trainer should educate his employees about new ideas going to applicable. So that a new idea is applicable to system as a whole should be conveyed to users. When "user guides" and suitable awareness created among users slowly they get accustomed to these methods.

Intervene of new ideas with very little time may cause preposterous system. So it is not feasible to switch on to many new ideas frequently . Rather select a best new idea and stick to it. So that in an organization or society will get adequate time to get accustomed to changes. For example in a agricultural sector, invention of chemical for crops. Formers starts using chemicals after good advertisement and come to know about reliability after getting crops. So he will realize worth of new idea only when he get benefited by it. So user finds it difficult yo adopt to new ideas if things changes volatile.

Finally, accepting new ideas and practicing can be dome easily with good training and awareness. Welcome of many new ideas in a short span of time may not be feasible when it comes to practice of these techniques. It is advisable always "Welcome an innovation easy but practicing without proper training and awareness will be difficult. So both accepting new ideas and practicing the same should go hand n hand. One shouldn't be too open hearten to accept new technologies unless prior one is put into practice thoroughly.

"The following appeared in a business magazine.

"As a result of numerous consumer complaints of dizziness and nausea, Promofoods requested that eight million cans of tuna be returned for testing last year. Promofoods concluded that the cans did not, after all, contain chemicals that posed a health risk. This conclusion is based on the fact that the chemists from Promofoods tested samples of the recalled cans and found that, of the eight chemicals most commonly blamed for causing symptoms of dizziness and nausea, five were not found in any of the tested cans. The chemists did find that the three remaining suspected chemicals are naturally found in all other kinds of canned foods."

Author failed to support the fact that "Whether Promofood's conclusion about chemical contents in tuna accepted by consumers". Argument is very doggerel and exacts profound analysis and report". Against consumer complaint Promofoods recalled the tuna but testing with company chemists and conclusions based on their report without the intervention of independent comity is not feasible.

First of all, Promofoods recalled the tuna in order to ensure that "It doesn't contain chemicals which causes dizziness and nausea".From the customer point of view company should act fair enough get the recalled samples examined by third independent party for its quality and genuineness.Paragraph exegesis that Chemists of Promofoods only tested cans for five out of eight dizzying and nausea causing chemicals. it doesn't say anything about accuracy of test and reports. So in front of an independent body cans should be examined and report should be generated.By doing so consumers trust fairness of tests.

Secondly, chemists examined for five out of eight chemicals and claim that "balance three present in all other kinds of canned foods. Passages lags to brief about which "other kinds of canned products ". Do those canned foods are healthier and don't cause dizziness and nausea. Passage should support statement with one or two examples of products which contain other three chemicals. And also should support the fact that even though "other food" contain chemicals causing dizziness and nausea, they are no complaints from consumers about their usage.

Finally, Passage doesn't say about quantity of chemical present in cans. They have tested for five chemicals and claim that "Cans are free from five out of eight chemicals causing dizziness and nausea". Now question arises about balance three. Passage says " Other kind of canned food contains these three chemicals".There is no sentence about what quantity of chemical content doesn't cause dizziness and nausea. Product may contain chemical more than minimal amount and may cause dizziness. So There should be strong reasons to support argument.

"It is always an individual who is the impetus for innovation; the details may be worked out by a team, but true innovation results from the enterprise and unique perception of an individual."

In the annuls of history,It has been already proved several times. It is an individual who is the impetus for innovation. One can't completely deny the fact of team work leads to innovation, because of which companies are emphasizing on teamwork now a days. Basically they buy a patent which is a research work of individual. In most cases former proved valid and individual perception leads to innovation.

First of all,a innovative mind has a impulsive desire and interest on a particular subject or concept. end result of constant thought process is new ideas. for example Archimedes principals were results of his perception not a team work. He found out new principals when he was taking bath and run out screaming "UREKA". This example clearly states that a individual's constant thinking on a subject and research yield to innovation.

Secondly, in a team there may be several people of unique idea and way of working together. By a team work eventually one can expect a solution for a problem. Having said that we can't completely deny the fact that "Team work can't lead to innovation".Some cases an open discussion may give a breakthrough for years of years research work. For example ERP a functional module of SAP is built over many years by team work and constant efforts. ERP is a wonderful innovation and eases day to day activity.

perception about innovation and team work changed over epoch.Earlier individuals like Newton,Archimedes,Graham Bel etc were well know scientists. During these time innovation mostly depend on individual perception. There are many supportive reasons for the same. Over the eon students in a team carried out research work, team in a company for execution of a work changed comprehension of innovation. We understood over time importance of team for innovation. Eventually individuals in team only lead to innovation but it team work is more effective in bringing out once enterprise and innovation.

Finally we infer that even though individual who is impetus for innovation, when he work in a team chances of bringing out with new ideas are more. So many companies and universities over time started research in groups. so it has become a general notion team which work out details may work as a factor for innovation, and individual perception and enterprise can be well lead to innovation when worked out in groups.

"Two mistakes of my life"

Sunday late afternoon, I was sitting my heads down, tiered without lunch and more than 5 hours of long wait made me go listless. In front of me MD of a prestigious company and a senior person from management.they were trying to extract my acquired skills and knowledge in two years of professional life. Yes! you are right!. I was facing an interview. A tough way cracked before I step in to interview hall.

Thursday, late evening I was about to leave my office but gmail maniac pulled me down to surf my mails. My surprise a mail pop up "Walk in call from a MNC on 9th may 2010 Sunday". I was lost in the imagination of huge crowd might gather for walk in. Somehow I took this matter seriously. For interview I have to "sharp axe".After a long professional life my fundamentals of Engineering was locked and kept deep under my left brain. I took all the pain to look over my basics and prepared for interview. Now I regret the moment I wish that shouldn't happened.

Never before on a Sunday I stared to sun early morning but I did because of interview. I got ready early morning checked my records and left for interview. After I wore my shoes I rechecked my bag for records. When I reached walk-in place crowd was almost covered parking lot as well. "I could have slept aramse" I blamed my self for coming for interview. Crazy crowd made me stand for 40 minutes in queue. My friend took out his resume to produce while registration and I followed him. Oh !! I exclaimed with haste."I forgot my resume".My goodness I had originals of mark card but resume?. SO i left with no option but to rush to nearest internet parlous to get a resume printed which was there in mail.

I regret myself rode my Apache till a cofe and get a resume printed.By the time I returned there was no queue. I consoled myself "return home bhai, registration over". Still I wanted to check my fate and it worked for me. I was allowed for written test.

More than 1500 people gathered for WT.My round came after 3 long hours of wait. There was an Verbal section and an aptitude section.More or less written was like a practice test for GRE. After tedious 50 minutes of written I lean over table and slept asleep. " Muruli K S " I heard somebody calling my name and I woke up to see my name shortlisted for interview.I was like"what! I can't believe"

5 long hours of wait without lunch.company people gave us snacks and tea. Post tea break there was interview. As I explained in first paragraph. Panel with two higher management level professionals took interview for me. My bad "two mistakes of my life I remember ever". After 10 minutes of casuals talk they asked me. Which area you interested to work?. Supplier quality or product quality?. I did my first mistake here. I chose former and had no clue why I chose.Followed by and result of my first mistake interview panel went frenzied and asked me "What is variable gauge and attribute gauge"> I did my second mistake here.question hit my ears like jargon of a manufacturing industry.I had no clue since I worked in non manufacturing company. I nodded I don't know answer but I tried to answer. Finally answered them wrongly.

End of interview with my last(lost)wrong answer. I was asked to go out and results are announced after 10 days. Now waiting finger crossed for result and somewhere in my mind a small silver line still alive.

"It is the artist, not the critic,* who gives society something of lasting value."

*a person who evaluates works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc.

Expressiveness of an artist is limitless.Whether he may be a musician, film director, poet.or painter.Art captures diversity, culture, spiritual, emotion, linguistic, and traditional values of society. An art conveys a message to the society.Value of an art and its popularity depends on the message it carry, creativeness etc.An art may carry forward a positive message or a negative to society if there is no critics. So analysis of an art is tantamount to that of making it.An artist can create an art without any limits so a critic evaluate the art in different parameters. Together they can give best value to society.

Let us consider an example of a painting,One of the popular artists in the world "Hussain". His recent painting on Hindu God; a community criticized his work. Since the art hurt traditional belief of that community;people ostracized him. This incident clearly indicates the effect of art when directly pass on to society bypassing a critic. A critic when it comes to evaluating healthiness of a magnum-opus and its effects on society. An artist can work on his own style but a critic can evaluate his work in all respects.

One more reason why critic plays equally important role as of an artist is commercialization of art.Consider a music. There are variety of music types like Karnatic, folk, vocal, filmy songs, pop songs etc.Decades ago people use to write poems related to their daily life and they sing it.The song conveys a message to society which was called folk music. Now a days because of commercialization there has been a lot of change in music composition and music. Lucrative minds bent on songs which compiled with immoral values. So there are system to evaluate healthiness of a song. If it contains vulgar, violence then they are not released. SO here also critic plays an important role in filtering healthy message from a piece of art.

Artist has no boundaries for his creativity. He need not to consider any social values. So imagine a there is no critic to evaluate an art; an art pass on to society without a critic. Our Society learn many things from music, painting, novels etc.So they get influenced by the art,how immoral it may be. We face effect of such works in short period of time. For example a recent book about "Existence of lord Basaveshwara" created chaos in the society. Eventually ended up brutal causalities between two communities of people.

Finally Artists can express their views through a medium like music, painting, novel etc;a critic can only evaluate arts healthiness, value in different parameters. So that an art should not directly pass on to readers which can prove to be disastrous.Critic role equally important as of an artist. Together they can give wonderful and valuable arts to society.

Analytical Writing Section

Writing tasks will be displayed on the computer, and you must type your responses.
"Issue" Task

The "Issue" task gives you considerable latitude in the way you respond to the claim made about a given issue. Practice writing responses on several of the topics, keeping to the 45-minute time limit. To prepare for this task, try asking the following questions when reviewing the published list of "Issue" topics:

* What does the statement mean? What does it imply? What, precisely, is the central issue?
* Do I agree with all or with any part of the statement? Why or why not?
* Is the statement valid only in certain circumstances?
* Do I need to explain how I interpret certain terms or concepts used in the statement?
* If I take a certain position on the issue, what reasons support my position?
* What examples — either hypothetical or drawn from my reading or direct experience — could I use to illustrate those reasons and advance my point of view? Which examples are most compelling?
* What reasons might someone use to refute or undermine my position? How should I acknowledge or defend against those views?

"Argument" Task

Because the "Argument" task is constrained by the line of reasoning in the argument presented to you, read and analyze the argument carefully. Practice writing responses to several of the topics within the 30-minute time limit. Try asking the following questions when reviewing the published list of "Argument" topics:

* What claims, conclusions, and underlying assumptions does the argument make?
* What alternative explanations and counterexamples can I think of?
* What additional evidence might weaken or strengthen the claims?
* What changes in the argument would make the reasoning more sound?

Sample Issue Essay 1

"Sample Issue Essay 1" ref Kaplan AWA practice.

Proponents of nuclear energy as "the power source of the future" have long touted its relative economy, "Clear burning" technology, and virtually inexhaustible fuel supply. However, a close examination of the issue reveals that the nuclear energy proves more problematic and dangerous than other forms of energy production and thus is not an acceptable solution to the problem of meeting ever increasing energy needs.

First and foremost, nuclear power production presents the problem of radioactive waste storage. Fuel by-products from nuclear fission remain toxic for thousand of years, and the spills and leaks from existing storage sites have been hazardous and costly to cleanup. This remains true despite careful regulation and even under the best of circumstances.Even more appalling is the looming threat of accidents at reactor itself:Incidents at the Three Mile Island and Chernobyl power plants and other production sites have warned us that the consequences of a nuclear meltdown can be catastrophic and worldwide.

But beyond the enormous long term environment problems and short term health risks, the bottom line issue for the production of energy is one of economics. Power production in our society is a business just like any other, and the large companies that produce this country's electricity and gas claim that they are unable to make alternatives such as Solar power affordable.Yet-largely due to incentives from federal government - there already exist homes heated by solar power, and cars fueled by sun.If the limited resources devoted to date to such energy alternatives have already produces working models, a more intense broadly based and supported effort is likely to make those alternatives less expensive and problematic.

Besides the benefit in terms of both cost and safety, renewable resources such as solar and hydroelectric power represent for better option in the long run of development:they require money only for the materials needed to harvest them. While sunlight and water are free, the innovative technologies and industrial strategies devised to harness them created a geometric progression of spin offs affecting fields as diverse as agriculture, real estate ,space exploration and social policy. They have also repeatedly produces secondary economic ans social benefits, such as the large recreational and irrigation reservoirs created in American Southwest behind large hydroelectric dams like the hoover and Grand Coulle.

While it may not be clear that the drawbacks to the use of nuclear power are too great, it should also be apparent that the long term benefits of renewable resources would reward investment. If these alternatives are explored more seriously than they have been in the past, safer and less expensive sources of power will undoubtedly live to their promise. With limited resources at our disposal and a burgeon global population to consider;further investment in nuclear power would mark an unconscionable and unnecessary waste of time and money.

The drawback to the use of nuclear power mean that it is not a long term solution to the problem of meeting ever increasing energy needs.

Nuclear energy is a solution for fast growing energy demand and can be a better alternative to permanent energy sources such as solar, hydro and Tidal.Globally increasing demands for energy can be assuaged by nuclear power.Alternative sources of energy are ineffective in replacing nuclear power in meeting growing energy demand.

First and foremost nuclear power generation takes place in large nuclear power plants.Scientists forecast that it cab be a solution for increasing energy demand. however challenge infront of them is to reduce the drawbacks like waste material storage, leakage of nuclear substance etc.Left out post nuclear reaction can be catastrophic. Considering the example of Delhi University incident.Drawbacks can be handled efficiently proviso that research should be carried out and come up with new ways of safe and effective power generation and wastage management.

Alternative forms of energy such as Solar energy,Hydroelectric energy,Tidal energy are permanent solutions of energy but proved costly. We are facing rapidly growing need for energy. Many research carried out to prove alternative permanent energy sources ineffective to cater to demand of energy. For example initial cost Solar water heaters are very high.Tidal power generation has its own deficiency. So nuclear power generation can be a best solution compare to permanent energy resources.

More research to be carried out in field of nuclear power generation. Our focus must be to reduce drawbacks of nuclear power generation. new methods to carry out reaction in much safer way. Methods to safe and careful handle nuclear waste.Awareness among employees in nuclear plants to use safety equipments and precautionary measures. These are few methods how we can reduce nuclear disastrous.

Finally Nuclear power can match increasing demand of energy more effectively than alternative permanent sources. This can prove its worth if the researches are carried out to reduce disadvantages.New ways of reaction can be invented inorder to meet long term energy demands.Though nuclear energy is not a permanent solution for energy but we can find out better ways to improve nuclear power generation. Globally it is accepted that nuclear power generation can be a alternative to fossil fuels. A peer research to come with new technologies is very much needed.

GRE Issue

"Important truths begin as outrageous, or at least uncomfortable, attacks upon the accepted wisdom of the time."

Important truths begin as outrageous or at least uncomfortable explicate the fact that important truths are contrary to general notions and accepted wisdom of time. This need not be true in all cases.Let us discuss this in detail.

In an instance astronauts muster information about a meteoroid, which suppose to pass tangential to earth.By postulations, statistics and actuarial they may come to conclusion that meteoroid passes earth surface without damaging life on earth. This is a accepted wisdom of the time.

On the day tracing out trajectory of meteoroid and it is confirmed to astronauts that meteoroid going to hit earth causing destruction of millions of people on earth. This is a truth need to be spread and can be outrageous.

On the other side of a coin, truths can be a sweet news as well.A aspirant for an interview lost his all hopes after a pall interview. He was under a wisdom that he can't able to clear interview. After result announced if his name is their in selected candidates list then important truth can be a good news.

So mustering all above facts I can say that important truths neither can be sweet news nor a outrageous, uncomfortable depending on circumstances. It is not necessary that truths always be uncomfortable to the general notion or wisdom of time. In later example truth become a fortune for the aspirant even though his wisdom of time is negative and he was expecting a reject. Whereas earlier case truth become a outrageous disaster and contrary to general notion and wisdom of time. So topic can be interpreted both ways and depending on situation.

Volunteers lead by GIRI organized the crowd in a place where we had earlier meet.We sat in circles on lan. since there were lots of newcomers an introduction session is a must we thought and started with same. Introduction started with Edulix associate and a unbeatable 13/0 profile holder Sheon followed by moderator POP (sorry can't type full name). It was almost 12 when we finished with intro and general Q&A session started from then.

within no time people started segregating University wise groups. Cornell was the big group with 9 students heading. NCSU being second bigger crowd. Rest all discussed about course structure,VISA documentation,Airline deal and shopping. I am for fall 2011 and struggling w/o a company. Finally get in touch with MCE guys and later busy with distribution of Edulix T shirts.

Time was around 2 O clock and people slowly started remembering about meals. We had a group photo and wanted to post in Edulix. We are proud that it was the biggest meet ever in Edulix archives.T shirts for Edulix 2010 distributed among members and we had a snap too.

Finally many people dispersed and rest of us decided to have meals at Barbeque Koramangala. The real fun started here.Nobody other than giri know the route and we followed Auto in busy Bangalore traffic. Finally w/o any trouble we reached BN.We had a great time and itself a big story to explain what happened during lunch.Post lunch some moved for coffee at Moca rest dispersed for their home.

Altogether Edulix Bangalore 2010 meet 2 was a great success. Number of people were almost two times the expectation. We discussed all facts and figures about Admits, final destination, which Uni is better, financial documentation,VISA documentation,AIR line deal and etc. Thanks to Giri and team for organizing wonderful meet. Sheon and Pop being part of meet made it more admirable and meaningful though CG absence was pretty noticeable. Overall special thanks to all those who attended meet and to EDULIX and team for creating such a wonderful chatbot where we trust.
